How to get to Palm Jumeirah in Dubai
When in Dubai, one of the things you need to know is how to get to Palm Jumeirah. This island, which looks stunning from both land and air, is home to multiple famous attractions, including the recently opened Atlantis The Royal Hotel and the magical Atlantis The Palm Hotel with the adjoining Aquaventure Water Park and Lost Chambers Aquarium.
City visitors often look for Palm Jumeirah metro station or Atlantis metro stations. In fact, the Dubai Metro does not go to Palm Jumeirah, and you will need to take alternative transportation. Many choose to come here by taxi because often it is cheaper and faster. The Dubai Monorail, opened in 2009, is primarily a tourist attraction. I highly recommend riding it at least once to enjoy the scenic view of many luxury villas and hotels, world-famous sights and the Persian Gulf.

Is the Palm Jumeirah Monorail linked to the Dubai Metro
Unfortunately, not yet. There are plans to extend the route and connect the monorail with the Dubai Metro (red line) in the future. Currently, you can get to the first monorail departure station by the Dubai Tram, by bus, by car or by taxi.
Palm Monorail route in Dubai
The Palm Jumeirah Monorail route runs from the mainland along the trunk of the palm-shaped island to the very tip, crowned by Atlantis The Palm Hotel. The distance between Palm Gateway and Aquaventure Waterpark stations is 5.5 km long, and the entire journey takes about 10 minutes.
The train runs via a high overpass, allowing you to enjoy a wonderful view of the surrounding area and the palm fronds. In my opinion, it is more exciting than travelling by car, especially because the last part of the highway actually goes through the tunnel, while the Palm Monorail route continues above the water. So if you would like to take in the panoramic views, you should experience the Dubai Monorail at least once in your life.
Have Fun Dubai’s Tip: The Palm Monorail is driverless, which means there are no crew compartments at the front or rear of the train. To spice up your experience and enjoy even better views, walk to the front windows, where you will be able to take fantastic photos.
Dubai Monorail stations
The Palm Monorail in Dubai currently stops at four stations:
- PALM GATEWAY
- AL ITTIHAD PARK
- NAKHEEL MALL
- THE POINTE (closed now)
- ATLANTIS AQUAVENTURE WATERPARK
Let’s have a closer look at each of them so that you know exactly where to get off for your favourite attractions and explore Palm Jumeirah at your own pace.
Palm Gateway monorail station
The entrance to the station is located near the One&Only Royal Mirage Hotel. If you arrive by tram, get off at Palm Jumeirah stop on the other side of the road and walk via a footbridge to Palm Gateway monorail station. The walk takes approximately 5 minutes.
If you arrive by car, you will have plenty of space thanks to more than 1,600 parking spots available at Palm Gateway station. The Dubai Monorail ticket holders get 3 parking hours for free, afterwards it will cost AED 10 per hour.
Al Ittihad Park monorail station
The first monorail station on Palm Jumeirah owes its name to Al Ittihad Park, located right below the station. It is a peaceful, leafy green space squeezed in between several apartment buildings. The lush surroundings are ideal for a leisurely stroll, jogging, cycling or even a small picnic.
You can also visit the nearby Golden Mile Galleria Mall with various boutique shops. It is a popular retail destination for local shoppers. To shrug off stress, walk a bit further to Riva Beach Club or an up-and-coming Palm West Beach area with relaxing bars and lovely views of Dubai Marina and Ain Dubai.
Get off here for:
- Al Ittihad Park
- The Golden Mile Galleria Mall
- Palm West Beach and Riva Beach Club
Nakheel Mall monorail station
This busy hub has direct access to the Nakheel Mall and the adjoining Palm Tower. The Nakheel Mall is one of the island’s recent additions, and with more than 300 shops, cafes and other attractions, it is a great alternative for a more relaxing shopping experience. You can grab a bite here before you continue your journey or even watch one of the movies at VOX Cinemas.
The Palm Tower is home to several attractions, including the popular View at The Palm observation deck. I highly recommend visiting this viewing platform located 240 metres above the ground. The view is truly spectacular, and the ticket price is budget-friendly. This is a great alternative to the observation deck on top of Burj Khalifa.
To unwind with a favourite drink and gorgeous views, go a couple of floors down to AURA SkyPool, the world’s highest panoramic infinity pool. For dinner in style, visit SUSHISAMBA Dubai or CouCou Dubai.
Get off here for:
- The Nakheel Mall
- The View at The Palm observation deck
- AURA SkyPool Lounge
- Trampo Extreme playground
- VOX Cinemas
- SUSHISAMBA Dubai and CouCou Dubai restaurants
The Pointe monorail station
The Pointe monorail station was opened in October 2022 and then closed in July 2023. It was connected to The Pointe — a popular waterfront retail and entertainment destination with over 80 restaurants, stores and other attractions. However, the Pointe Palm Jumeirah stopped its operation in 2023 due to the area remodelling. The Pointe monorail station was subsequently closed down as well and it is not clear whether it will reopen later.
Before, you could visit a long promenade with multiple dining venues facing the water. Until May 2023, that used to be the Palm Fountain, listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest fountain in the world.
Atlantis Aquaventure Waterpark monorail station
Are you still on board? We are about to approach the final destination of the Palm Monorail in Dubai — Atlantis Aquaventure Waterpark. The last part of the route runs via a bridge above the water with a stunning view of the Atlantis The Palm Hotel. Here you can visit the Aquaventure Water Park, with the largest number of water slides in the world, and the Lost Chambers Aquarium.
For unobstructed gulf news and a refreshing sea breeze, go to the Palm Jumeirah Boardwalk, which stretches for many kilometres along the entire outer island. It is ideal for cycling and leisurely sunset strolls. You will see a row of many posh hotels, including a recently opened Atlantis the Royal.
Get off here for:
- Atlantis The Palm Hotel
- Aquaventure Water Park
- Lost Chambers Aquarium
- Atlantis the Royal Hotel
- WHITE Beach Dubai
- Palm Jumeirah Boardwalk
