Located just off the coast of Jumeirah Beach Residences (JBR), Bluewaters is a man-made island that offers a unique blend of urban living and serene island life. With its lovely waterfront views, modern architecture and leisure facilities, Bluewaters is one of my favourite areas to escape from the bustle of the city. However, be prepared that there are not many public transport options.

Whether you’re looking to go shopping, dining or simply unwinding by the waterfront, Bluewaters is an excellent addition to any Dubai itinerary.

Make sure to visit the Heritage Village and cross the Dubai Creek by a traditional abra water taxi for AED 1.

Za’abeel

Jebel Ali

Located in the southern part of Dubai, Jebel Ali is a bustling commercial and industrial district known for its port and free zone. With its strategic location and business-friendly environment, Jebel Ali is a hub for international trade and commerce.

While Jebel Ali may not offer the same attractions and amenities as some of Dubai’s other neighbourhoods, it provides a unique and important glimpse into the city’s economy and global reach. However, you can visit the nearby Outlet Village and Dubai Parks and Resorts with several amusement parks. Staying in one of the on-site hotels, such as Lapita, Dubai Parks, and Resorts, Autograph Collection, ensures easy access to all the exciting attractions and makes for an unforgettable family vacation.

Emirates Hills

This ongoing mega-development project will cover an area of 280 square km when completed. In addition to residential complexes, there are shopping, entertainment and sports venues. Come to see the massive Dubai Global Village. This is an open-air fair, open from autumn to late spring, where in a couple of hours you can visit all corners of the world, see replicas of renowned buildings and purchase international products. In addition, several shows are organised every evening, and there is a big amusement park. Right across from the Dubai Global Village, lies another theme park, called the IMG Worlds of Adventure.

Dubai Sports City within the Dubailand area offers many sports facilities. Among them are the World Ice Hockey Academy, the World Cricket Academy and the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

For first-timers in Dubai, I would recommend visiting neighbourhoods, such as Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina, JBR, Palm Jumeirah, Deira and Bur Dubai, packed with the best Dubai landmarks and things to do.

Best areas for family vacations

The best areas to stay in Dubai with family are Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Marina, JBR, Jumeirah and Downtown Dubai. Most of them have beaches and/or numerous attractions for kids. You can also visit Dubailand and Jebel Ali for other theme parks.

Best areas for nightlife

For party-goers, I recommend such top neighbourhoods as Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina, JBR, Bluewaters Island, Palm Jumeirah, Barsha Heights and DFC, where you will find trendy bars, restaurants and clubs.

Best areas for budget-friendly vacations

For a vacation to Dubai on a budget, I recommend staying and eating in areas like Deira, Bur Dubai, Barsha Heights or Al Barsha and using public transport to the main attractions.

Best areas for beach vacations

For beach-goers in Dubai, I suggest visiting vibrant neighbourhoods like JBR, Jumeirah and Palm Jumeirah. Another good option is Al Mamzar Beach Park, a hidden gem located in the Deira district of Dubai, offering a more tranquil beach experience compared to the busy areas.

Best areas for adventure and sports enthusiasts

For thrill-seekers and sports enthusiasts, Dubai offers a wide range of exciting activities and attractions. Stay in Dubai Marina, JBR, Jumeirah or Palm Jumeirah to be close to boat tour departure points, waterparks and other water activities.

Head to the dunes for a desert safari, where you can experience dune bashing, camel riding and sandboarding. Alternatively, visit Skydive Dubai for a once-in-a-lifetime skydiving experience over the Palm Jumeirah. For those who prefer water sports, Kite Beach is the perfect spot for kitesurfing, paddleboarding and other water-based activities.

The Dubai Mall also features numerous dining options, an ice rink, an aquarium and indoor theme parks, like Kidzania. Next door, stroll along the beautiful galleries of Souk Al Bahar.
